A memo to Sony [May. 22nd, 2013|03:51 am]
[music |Namco X Capcom Sound Team - Original - Namco X Capcom - Trembling City of Aris | Powered by]

Hey Sony.

So yeah. 8 years. It's been about 8 years since Microsoft came out with the 360 and... well, let's face it. Since that time, you haven't faired too well in America. You really haven't been the same awesome Sony that you use to be back during your prime years in the late 90s and even early 2000s. Through that time, you've struggled long and hard to try to regain that grounds that Microsoft was stealing from you. But it seemed like every time you tried, you tripped and fell.

This especially is a prime example of when you fell hard and couldn't regain yourself for years to come. Through that time, Microsoft has changed the way the gaming market is in the states and... well, frankly, it's been bad. Most "gamers" these days are into the First Person Shooters, blood gore and so on. If you tried to even show a game that was as simple as crash bandicoot or jak and daxter to today's market, it would not sell whatsoever. However, these past few years, you've shown that you still have that Sony magic that I thought was lost long ago. "Journey" is a perfect example of this.

But me bringing up your mistakes isn't why Im writing this memo that you will never read. Oh no. My reason for writing this is for one reason.

Microsoft, the competitor that has held you down for so long, has FINALLY done an equally embarrassing presentation to yours back in 2006.

Now granted, their hardware looks good and the system has potential. But there's one point where they just fell about as hard as when you announced the "Five Hundred and Ninty Nine Dollars" price point: The fact that the system can't play used games.

Sony, you haven't said squat if your PS4 will do the same or not. But if it won't, this is the open shot you've been waiting for for years now. You're GUARANTEED to get at LEAST half of your former install base back if you don't follow Microsoft's lead and you may be poised to be the leader in the gaming industry once more. And seeing that you guys honestly still have it in the unique titles department, it would be a blessing in disguise for the industry if you came back to reclaim your title that you had in the late 90s and early 2000s.

Sony. Please, for the love that is all holy: Don't mess up this chance.

Video Game Update 2/20/2012 [Feb. 20th, 2013|11:30 pm]

Ok, Im about 2 weeks late into this. Sue me.

Anyway, with getting my PS3 back, I decided to have fun and purchase a few games, coming across a personal goal to get as many trophies in the playstation network by the end of the year. As a result, I've dumped playing Eden Eternal again for right now (Doesnt help that RIGHT as I join, the friends whom convinced me to play seemed to have mostly quit XD). So here's the games Ive been playing:

One Piece Pirate Warriors: I think this is the first Dynasty Warriors game I have played all the way through. Granted, I wish the Thriller Bark and Skypedia arcs could have been covered, but I suppose both are being saved up for the sequel. Despite the fact that they're set in an Alternate Universe.

Speaking of Alternate Universes, I love how the off-canon final battle ends up going. Realistically, I can imagine Luffy doing what he did in this final battle after the 2 year time skip, so this ironically does give a good idea on how well he'd hold up in that Marine HQ War.

Overall, I love what I played, though in the end, I only got about 30 percent of all the trophies. I'll have to jump back in and gain the remaining portions someday.

Tokyo Jungle: Oh Sony. Sony, Sony, SONY. Here I thought you completely forgot what made you guys awesome with the unique titles and off-the-wall crazy stints. NOPE. This game is living proof that you still remember.

To put it lightly, this game is very addicting. Sure, all it is is you play an animal and try to survive in a post-apocolyptic Tokyo while feeding on animals or plants and avoiding predators. Seems simple on paper, but when you throw in poisoned fields and random changing enviroments, things get hectic fast.

I love AND hate this game. Love it for everything I described above, but hate it because surviving for 100 years and getting every mission completed is just BRUTAL once you get the dinosaurs thrown in at year 60-70ish. I attempted to purchase the animal pack, which allows you to use a robot dog similar to Sony's Aibo, but that alone is what helped me get to the 60-70 range before I died.

This is another game I hope to get more trophies for, but luckily there's not a whole lot of them due to the simple nature of the game. It's just a matter of bearing through the years and hoping you survive in this.

Fire Emblem: Awakening: I've been making very slow progress on this game. Part of which is due to the fact that Im prefering to play this game when Im on my way to or back from work when on bus. Usually on the way back since Im too tired to play any games while on my way to work. But the game is very fun and challenging. You literally have to watch for every last possible move you make in this game; Otherwise, you're toast.

My party is currently in the level 5ish range, and I hope to keep bringing them up as time progresses. Only party memeber Ive lost through all of this is my black mage Miriel. Which honestly Im not feeling THAT bad for yet. Still, I could use more healers in my group. Hopefully I can find a couple.

Pokemon Black 2: Despite encouragements from my co-worker to play through the Winter Online Tournament, I only played 2 games. Mostly I participated for the berry haul you get after said tournament is done. Beyond that, all Ive been doing is growing berries in hopes to get the perfect set of furniture for my Dream World house. Training wise, Im ok with for the time being after training my Latios a few weeks ago. It's just a matter of finding the time again soon to train more Pokemon.

It didn't really take me long to start playing games on a frequent basis again. Seems like the next PS3 game Ill be playing is the first Naruto Ultimate Ninja game, so we'll see how that goes.

Until next time!

Video Game Update 2/8/2012 [Feb. 8th, 2013|03:26 am]
[Current Location |United States, Texas, San Antonio]
[music |藍井エイル - INNOCENCE | Powered by]

Reading through my backlog of journal updates, I noticed one of the things I use to do was give updates on games I was playing. Considering I tend not to have much use for LiveJournal these days (especially now realizing a good chunk of that use was with my WtW friends, whom have long abandoned this place anyway), I figured I'd bring this back up. I figure an update every few days would be entertaining enough. Anyway, here's what I'm working with:

Pokemon Black 2:

Recently, I just finished training my Latios and practiced in a couple of battles with him. The overall thoughts is that he works ok as support to Blissey in double battles, though I get the feeling he could be something far more if I just planned it out well enough. Nontheless, he helped me win the Multi Train challenge with my friend/co-worker Abel and helped both of us earn medals. As of now, Im focusing away from competitve raising for a bit to get more medals. Seeing if I can earn some through fishing.

Eden Eternal:

I managed to get to Level 5 a few days ago, creating my character a human named AlberioStar. The game seems to be fairly easy enough so far, but Im interested to see how far it really goes. I also hope to encounter some of my friends in this game sometime soon.

Monster Hunter Tri:

For a very good while, I was playing this game fairly obsessively. That is, until I realized it may just be better to wait for Ultimate to come out. I mean, in a month from now, all of this progress will be all for naught anyway. Playing the game again DID help remind me on how to play the game again, though, so it was helpful to play this. I'm looking forward to Ultimate's release in March

I'm heavily considering picking up Fire Emblem: Awakening as well, but I suppose we'll see how well that all stacks up in due time.

New Year's Resolution Past And Present 2013 [Dec. 31st, 2012|01:41 pm]

For six years, I've been doing this New Year's Resolutions thing on the net. Kinda surprised Ive been doing it for this long. Anyway, soon I'll be 28, a bit older, hopefully a bit wiser and maybe a bit less emotional too :P. I kinda cheated and looked at my resolutions from last year a few hours before writing this, but hey, whatever saves time. Anyway, let's look and see if I gained a few real life achievements.

-Get myself better financially secured through 2012

Oh boy, if I only knew what was going to happen one MONTH after I wrote this. But that'll be in the next resolution.

But yeah, I wouldn't realize at all until later on that the job I had at that time would not be willing to pay any higher than what they were already forking to me, thus forcing me to find a better job with Apple.

Long story short? I accomplished this resolution. More money is coming in and though I still have to be careful on how I spend on several occasions, I'm defienetely not feeling as much of a tight grip as I was with my old job. I'm defienetely in the "good" spot, and I earned a LITTLE bit more, I'm sure I'd be in the "great" spot. Afterwards would be the "perfect" spot I've been striving for. Of course, the living choices I made help to this as well, which leads to....

-IF I obtain the first resolution, focus on getting my car in tip top shape.

....aaaaaand one month later my car goes ka-put on me, along with every last ounce of car-fandom I had.

Yeah, I'm not gonna lie: While I loved my car in the entire time I had it, the sheer stress of trying to maintain it, along with all the mess I had to endure with my friend's Volkswagen, just finally drove me to say "Ok, I'm done being a fan of cars."

I never thought I'd say that. I've always been into cars since I was a kid, but it kinda exploded a bit more when I got into Volkswagens around '99. Got my VW Bug in 2001... which I never drove around, and then I got my Miata in 2004. Which was a very reliable car up until the very end (and thus made me hate trucks a HELL of a lot more).

I do want to get another car someday (Which I already explictly told myself would HAVE to be another VW Beetle or Miata) but I'm realizing not having a vehicle is saving me quite a bit of money. Sure, the commute to work really sucks (1 1/2 hours-2 hours to get to work, another 1 1/2 hours - 2 hours to get home), but I'd rather deal with this and get more income than to invest in another car.

-Get my current furniture setup plans set up for my place by the end of 2012.

And it did. For the most part.

I did manage to get the PC desk in my room, along with a general folding table which acts as a dinner table for 4-5 people during get togethers or as an awesome tcg table for 2 player matches.

I still haven't gotten the multiple dvd racks, however. That and I never did focus on that drawing table. Mostly because my PC desk kinda serves that purpose anyway. Long story short, so far so good, but I could still do more.

-Say by this time next year "You know what? I've been cooped up in Texas for far too long now. Time to travel outside this state to New York"

You know what? I've been cooped up in Texas for far too long now. MAYBE it's about time I should travel outside this state to California.

... yeah, the direction changed. Deal with it :P

In all seriousness, however, I was given the offer to come with my friends Kaylyn and Josh over to Anime Expo. And though there are several friends I wanna meet in the New York area... for some reason, California sounds a tad bit closer. And cheaper to get to for some reason.

I dunno, call me silly. But at least I got a determination to travel outside the state, so that took care of that!

3 outta 4? Bretty good. Let's look at my new resolutions:

-Finish "Phase 2" of my furniture set up

Ok future me, this is what I hope you accomplish with the furniture set up:
*Video Game Shelves
*1-2 Bookshelves (1 is ok, but remember we need 2 for the magazine collection)
*Wallscrolls (Dont have to get EVERY single one of them)

You do that and we'll be set. I'll leave the 55 inch TV and surround sound for Phase 3.

-Have The Twitterponies RPG Demo done by the end of June

I wanna make sure I finish this soon, but I also wanna be realistic. When I make this, I want to make sure it stands on it's own as a good game, in the event I never finish this RPG. Regardless, that's my goal

-Complete my Jungle and Fossil Pokemon collection

Ok, Im adding a fun one here. Mostly because Ive been meaning to complete these sets for a long time now. But yes, finishing these sets would be awesome. If I could, I'd just finish the ENTIRE first generation set, but once again, trying to be realistic here.

-Say by this time next year "Ok. I'm ready: Let's go to Japan."

The biggest goal of my life seems like it's further in reach than it ever was before. God willing, as long as I keep this job and as long as I continue to work and strive for it, I think all throughout 2013, I can realistically start saving for this goal. The current game plan is for me to go there by summer of 2014. Right in time for the summer movies there, including the Pokemon film. Maybe I could time it right to where I go during the Tokyo Game Show instead? I dunno, but I suppose we'll find out for sure by this time next year.

By the way, future self: Regardless if our situation is good or not, if we can't say this by next year, we may need to seriously consider forever closing this book.

And that's it! Everyone, you all have a wonderful 2013 and look forward to the best!

The different types of Twitter users [Nov. 16th, 2012|03:44 pm]
[Current Location |United States, Texas, San Antonio]
[mood |sicksick]
[music |Owl City - When Can I See You Again]

Welp, I'm back once again to post a little rant. Before I continue, though; Life in general has been ok for the most part. I've been able to do a few things here and there, though the limitations of using only the bus is slowly starting to drain on me. Still, I gotta do what I gotta do. Anyway, onto the main topic at hand.

Through the last year, I've become more and more accustomed to Twitter. For the longest of time, I could not understand the concept behind it. I mean, isn't it easier to just post a long status on Facebook? But being on the #Twitterponies RP really started to show me what the true purpose of Twitter is, and I REALLY wish this was explained to me sooner:

In a nutshell, it's designed to be like a gigantic freakin global chat. Yes, you post status updates and what not, but it's also designed to be like a literal chat, so that if someone tags you, you can reply back to them, or re-tweet something they posted. Once I begun to understood this, I really began to love it.

However, you begin to notice several other types of twitter users on the net. Sure, they follow the same basic principle that twitter is designed for, but they go a bit further. Mostly because they're celebrities of some type. Some for better, some for worse. Here are a few examples I can think of, titles given off the top of my head:

The fake account - Ah yes, you're a celebrity, but you have someone else post your tweets in exchange for yourself. A lot of celebrities apparently do this, but it's pretty clear that a fair amount of WWE superstars do this too. It's fair enough and all, but if you're going to be fake about it (especially if it's not storyline driven like the WWE), then why don't you just create a facebook fan page? Makes no sense to me personally.

The "LOOK AT MY PICTURES" account - You post dozens upon dozens of pictures again and again, not really giving much a status or anything, and not really replying to those who tweet you. I see @jdffn doing this ALL the time (Jason David Frank of Power Rangers fame). Once again, there's a medium for stuff like that; It's called Tumblr.

The "LOOK AT ME IM USING AN INTERNET" account - Oh Tara Strong, YOU missy are whom I think about with THIS kind of account. Basically posting tons of nonsense that... well, makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Just like a newbie to the net. It's like watching a 5 year old: Oh yeah, sure, there are moments when they're cute, but then they can get annoying too.

The Re-Tweet account - So you use your twitter like normal, tweeting your statuses and stuff too... and then you re-tweet... and you re-tweet again... and again... AND AGAIN. Granted, this isn't as bad with certain accounts (In fact, everyone tends to go a bit overboard from time to time, myself included), but then you have OTHER accounts who do it because they're a well known person and people beg them to re-tweet them for the sake of attention. It's one thing if you see a re-tweet for something that's funny, but when you see a re-tweet about some nobody who's asking a popular guy to retweet his mediocre My Little Pony Season 3 review... well, that's where you get into "grinds-my-gears" territory.

I know the people who do this type of re-tweets, mind you, are good people, but this is likely the one that irritates me the most. People who use twitter will start to notice that if they follow too many people, a good chunk of them will tweet stuff to a point where it'll take some time to catch up. Having some of these people flood your timeline with a bunch of self-promoting re-tweets can be especially irritating to deal with.

Long story short, I feel that if you're going to re-tweet, it better be something at least interesting and/or kinda funny, not promoting your stuff or saying it's your birthday.

Despite my complaints, I still prefer Twitter in the end for my status updates and, through learning of these types of accounts, have learned to try to keep my net courtesy in check.

Ive been meaning to post a few more random thoughts, so hopefully I won't slack off on the idea again.

Holy mother of god I remember this [Jul. 15th, 2012|08:45 pm]

I've been in a Pokemon mood the entire day today, trying to get back my old team I used back during first gen. So imagine my delight when I decided to roam endlessly around the internet after all of that and stumble upon this:

This image alone brings back memories. In fact, seeing that sheet reminds me I still have the Mewtwo, Charmander, Mew and Pikachu from that sheet. But what is it exactly, you may wonder? Allow me to let this quote from IGN explain:

"For those of you who have caught 'em all but are still desperate to add to that collection, November 26th is your day. That's the day Mew, Pokémon #151, comes to Toys "R" Us all across the country.

As many Pokémaniacs know, Mew is the most rare Pokémon of them all. There is no possible way to catch him or trade for him in either Pokémon Red, Blue, or Yellow cartridges. The only way to snag this critter, up until now, was to be a Nintendo Power contest winner snag him at a special Pokémon event.

Finally, Mew is available to the masses. However, Pokémon trainers will have to be on their toes if they want to catch Mew. Here's how to be a part of this event:
Have your Gameboy and a Pokémon Gameboy cartridge ready on November26th.
Be the one of the first 1,500 customers at any Toys "R" Us store, and you will receive a special 'Peel & Win' sticker card.
Peel off the Mew sticker.
If the words "Caught Me!" appear under the sticker, you have won Mew, and a Toys "R" Us employee will upload a Mew Pokémon into your own Pokémon cartridge (be it Red, Blue, or Yellow).

Two hundred Mews will be given away at each Toys "R" Us location, so you have about a one-in-seven chance of snagging one.

See your local Toys "R" Us for more details and legal mumbo-jumbo, and while you're at it, scope out your city for an underpopulated Toys "R" Us store for the best chance to catch Mew. This will be a tough hunt, but a Master Trainers should be up to the challenge. Good luck!

Yeah, look at the date of that contest a bit closely.

November 26th. IE Black Friday.

It still confuses me why Nintendo thought it was a good idea to do an event this big on the biggest shopping day of the year, but I knew NOTHING of the day in question when this event was announced. I was 14 at the time, so the only thing that was in my mind was trying to win this one contest so I can say I have Mew legitly. Without codes. Without hacking. So of course I'd ask my great granny to take me to Toys R Us on that morning to try my luck. And being the silly person I was, when we got there, I assumed everyone was there for that one contest.

Yeah, I was stupid, shaddup :P

I don't remember much else besides the huge rush of people trying to get stuff for Christmas, but I just remember heading straight to the register to get that sticker sheet you see above.

And... despite putting up with chilly temperatures to try my luck, I came back empty handed =/

Still though, it was one of the more memoriable times of my early Pokemon days.

I got more interesting Pokemon stories than just that, btw. I'll probably share another one sometime soon :P
